Bicycle Patrol Unit Information

Bicycle Patrol is regularly used for patrolling neighborhoods, apartment complexes, town parks, and the Erie Canal Park. It is also deployed for special events such as the Memorial Day Parade, Firemen’s Field Days, the Special Olympics Torch Run, and surveillance operations.

The bicycles are equipped with flashing lights, an audible buzzer, and a rear storage pack for carrying police equipment. Each bicycle is clearly marked with police insignia, and officers wear designated bicycle patrol uniforms to distinguish them from civilian cyclists.

We believe that bicycle patrols provide our officers with an effective method for detecting crime and apprehending criminals. Additionally, this approach allows officers to interact more frequently and more personally with residents than they might while patrolling in a vehicle.

Our goal is to serve the residents of Camillus effectively, and we are committed to exploring innovative methods to provide the highest level of service.
