What Is The Citizen Police Academy?
The goal of this program is to educate the public about the Camillus Police Department and to increase positive relationships between citizens and our police officers.
Our hope is that the graduates of the Citizen’s Police Academy become more aware and better informed about how the police department operates, and will encourage friends, coworkers, and families to joining the Camillus Police Department in this rewarding program. The program involves both classroom and interactive instruction.
What's Included In The Citizen Police Academy?
This program focuses on emphasizing hands-on subject matter, the instructions will present topics including, but not limited to:
- Department History
- Justice System Overview
- Use of Force, Self Defense, and Personal Safety
- Traffic Safety, Crash Investigation, Vehicle and Traffic Stops
- Mental Health, Crisis Negotiations, and Investigations
- Crime Scene Investigations / Drone Program
- Firearms
- Reality Based Training
- Domestic Violence
- Drug Recognition, Substance Abuse, and Narcan Training
- Criminal Investigations

How To Apply
In order to apply for this program, you must fill out and submit the Class Application. You may download or print the class application from our website using the link below. The completed application must be submitted by March 7, 2025, either by email to CitizensPoliceAcademy@townofcamillus.com or in person at our office during business hours.
Class Schedule Information
- Class Dates: April 2, 2025 - May 28, 2025
- Class Times: Every Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm - 10:00pm (Weekly Classes)
- Class Size: Classes are limited to (12) students on a first come, first serve basis.
- Application Deadline: Applications must be submitted by March 7th, 2025
